Labels Are For Clothes

Today’s blog post is a special one. I’ve been lucky enough to team up with River Island to highlight their anti-bullying campaign ‘Labels Are For Clothes.’ This collection is so special because it supports equality, open mindedness, and acceptance. All things I’m deeply passionate about so I couldn’t be more excited to back such an awesome campaign. Read on to learn more!

The Campaign

To celebrate their 30th birthday (congrats!) River Island has partnered with anti-bullying charity ‘Ditch The Label.’ The campaign includes spokespeople of all walks of life, that have all been stereotyped, bullied, and labeled in their lives. Unfortunately this is something we can probably all relate to. But it’s important campaigns like this that will help fix this narrative.

River Island and Ditch The Label have created a range of t-shirts and sweatshirts for both men and women that promote equality and acceptance. A percentage of each of these sales goes to charity, and even more funds go to charity with social shares using the hashtag #LABELSAREFORCLOTHES. The collection is fun yet simplistic with poignant anti-judgment catch phrases such as ‘Pure Original Do Not Judge.’ Of course they didn’t let us down with the stylistic elemetns either. The line features everything from bold color pairing and colorful block letters to black and white simplicity, like the tee I’m wearing.

I am 100% ‘Expressive’

I chose the t-shirt that allows you to create your own slogan for the campaign with the prompt Labels are for Clothes 100% ___________ . For me I chose to fill in the blank with the word expressive. Because I believe that through fashion, actions, etc. I am expressing myself. I am not to be stereotyped because of what I’m wearing or how I’m wearing it. My style is my expression in the moment. I believe we should accept and encourage everyone to express themselves rather then clump them into categories or even worse – ask them to fit a mold.

As I mentioned above I am so honored and excited to back this campaign. I hope it inspires others to express themselves freely and proudly. Be sure to shop the collection here!
